The library has a great selection of secondhand books for sale. We have a pre-mela sale at the back of the library where we have a great selection at very reasonable prices. Come and have a look!
The Minnie Starkman Memorial Library began in the 1960's as a collection of 50 paperbacks. We have grown to more than 18,000 titles including fiction, non-fiction, biographies, reference and resource materials, a children's section and an extensive section of Indian fiction and non-fiction. We offer books on tape and accept any donations. Every Saturday morning, at 11:00 a.m., the library hosts a story time for children, aged 2-6, accompanied by an adult who is an AWA Member. The library welcomes donations of books and magazines. Duplicate copies are sold to benefit the library. We are located inside Gate B of the American Embassy Compound on Chandragupta Marg adjacent to the Commissary.
All AWA members, U.S. Embassy community personnel and Foreign Service Nationals are eligible to join. There is no annual fee for AWA members. Non-AWA members must pay Rs. 200 annually. You must present your passport and visa as well as a passport-size photo to the AWA office to obtain an AWA Library picture identification card. Please inform the library when you leave Delhi. It helps us keep our membership files current.
Members can check books out for 2 weeks and renew them by telephone. Overdue fines are Rs.5 per day with a maximum of Rs.150 per book. Please return books during hours of operation or place them into the library return drop, located to the left of the generator. You can place overdue fines in the card pocket of the books. We ask patrons to replace or pay for lost or damaged books.

Please note: With the holidays, we’ve reduced the hours due to volunteers being in various stages of their family vacations.
Timings listed on the Contact Us page reflect the current hours for which we have a steady volunteer. As more people sign up to help or return from vacations, we will extend the hours as possible. Please check this website for the latest schedule and please remember to call the library to double check!
As always, we are in search of more volunteers! Whether you’re free
for an hour or two here and there, would like to read during our Story
Time or would like to volunteer on a weekly basis, we could sure use
your help! If interested, please send e-mail to library@awadelhi.com.
We’re planning a volunteer open house event in a few weeks, so if
