›› Have you ever wondered what happened to the items you donated to the Thrift Shop?

Last month, we sent boys and girls swim suits, sand and various tactile toys to Action for Autism. This is a wonderful NGO that helps families with autistic children. They have a hostel to house approximately 12 mothers so that they can be trained in managing their autistic child and help others with different forms of autism. The end result has been the creation of other NGOs around India and Nepal that are associated with Action for Autism. The women return regularly for seminars and further training.

Educational toys, schoolbooks, and supplies were sent to Project Why, an NGO which believes that education is the way out of the slum. They provide classrooms in Okhla and other areas to tutor students in English and other subjects. They also have crèche facilities where older children can go to school instead of babysitting their younger siblings.

Clothing for women and children were sent to Sahara House. This NGO is dedicated to removing homeless women and children from the street. Sahara House works at helping them if they are dependent on alcohol or drugs. They also work to have their children accepted into boarding schools so that they do not end up back on the street.

Clothing for men was sent to Sewa Ashram. This NGO provides support to indigent tuberculosis patients after they have been discharged from the government hospitals. These patients still need support for many months in the form of medicine and diet. We provide men’s clothing to ensure additional purchase is not required.

Thank you for your donations. They are greatly appreciated by all the NGOs!
